SubsidiesUpdated June 2026 · 7 min read
The HDB Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) 2.0 programme subsidises home modifications that help elderly residents live safely and independently in their HDB flat. Grab bars, foldable shower seats, ramps, anti-slip floor treatment — HDB arranges everything, and eligible households pay as little as 5% of the cost.
Quick summary
✅ For HDB flat owners with a resident aged 65+ or person with disability
✅ Singapore Citizens only (not PRs)
✅ Subsidy up to 95% depending on flat type
✅ HDB appoints the contractor — no need to source your own
✅ Apply online via HDB portal with Singpass
EASE 2.0 covers structural modifications to your HDB flat — things that are physically installed into the home. Unlike AIC SMF (which covers devices you buy), EASE covers the installation itself.
Grab bars & handrails
Bathroom, toilet, bedroom, corridor
Foldable shower seat
Wall-mounted, folds flat when not in use
Ramp
For wheelchair or mobility aid access
Widened doorways
For wheelchair clearance (min 800mm)
Anti-slip floor treatment
Professional treatment for bathrooms & common areas
Elderly-friendly lighting

Note: You can apply for one or more modifications. You do not need to take all of them.
You must meet all of these criteria:
| Flat Type | Maximum Subsidy | You Pay |
|---|---|---|
| 1-room / 2-room | S$2,500 or 95% of cost | 5% |
| 3-room | S$2,500 or 85% of cost | 15% |
| 4-room | S$2,500 or 75% of cost | 25% |
| 5-room / Executive | S$2,500 or 50% of cost | 50% |
| Private / DBSS | Not eligible | — |
Subsidy cap is S$2,500 per application. Verify current rates at hdb.gov.sg before applying.
Check eligibility online
Visit the HDB portal (hdb.gov.sg/EASE) to confirm your flat type and resident qualifications. You need at least one resident aged 65+ or a person with a disability. Singapore Citizens only — PRs are not eligible for EASE 2.0.
Log in with Singpass and apply
Apply directly through the HDB portal using Singpass. You can select which modifications you want (you don't need to take all of them). HDB will confirm eligibility and arrange a site assessment.
HDB arranges a home visit
An HDB-appointed contractor will visit your flat to assess feasibility and provide a quotation. This visit is free. The contractor will advise on the best placement for grab bars and other modifications based on your flat layout.
Review and approve the works
You'll receive a quotation showing the full cost and your subsidised amount. Once you approve, HDB schedules the installation. You do not need to find your own contractor — HDB manages everything end-to-end.
Works completed, pay your share
Installation typically takes 1–2 days for standard modifications. After completion, you pay only your co-payment share (based on flat type). For 1 and 2-room flats, you may pay as little as 5% of the cost.
Yes — and you should. EASE 2.0 and AIC SMF are completely separate subsidies and many Singapore caregivers use both. EASE 2.0 covers the structural installation (e.g., bolting grab bars to the wall, applying anti-slip treatment); SMF covers the devices you purchase and use (e.g., a walker, wheelchair, fall detection watch).
