AIC SMF Eligible Items: Complete List for 2026

The AIC Seniors' Mobility and Enabling Fund (SMF) subsidises assistive devices for Singapore seniors aged 60 and above — covering up to 90% of the cost. But knowing exactly what is and isn't covered can be confusing. This is the most complete plain-English list of SMF-eligible items for 2026, organised by category.

⚠️ Important: Apply BEFORE you buy

AIC SMF does not reimburse purchases made before approval. Get OT assessment → get AIC approval → then purchase. Buying first means you lose the subsidy entirely.

Who is eligible for AIC SMF?

To qualify, you must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident aged 60 and above, with an assessed per capita household monthly income of S$2,800 or below (or if living in a property with annual value of S$13,000 or below). Lower-income applicants receive higher subsidy rates, up to 90%. The device must be recommended by a qualified occupational therapist.

What is NOT covered by AIC SMF?

These items are NOT SMF-eligible:

✗ Standard single-tip walking canes

✗ Anti-slip mats and bathroom flooring (covered by HDB EASE 2.0 instead)

✗ Grab bar installation labour (covered by HDB EASE 2.0 for HDB flats)

✗ Ramps and access modifications (covered by HDB EASE 2.0)

✗ Stairlifts

✗ Hospital beds (separate scheme applies)

✗ Incontinence products and consumables

✗ Nutritional supplements

✗ Hearing aids (separate subsidy scheme via MOH)

✗ Spectacles and vision aids

Many home modification costs (anti-slip flooring, ramp installation, grab bar labour for HDB flats) are covered instead by HDB EASE 2.0. These two schemes often complement each other — many Singapore families apply for both.

How to Apply for AIC SMF — Step by Step

Step 1

Book an occupational therapy (OT) assessment. The OT assesses your loved one's mobility, home environment, and recommends suitable equipment. You can book through AIC (1800-650-6060), a polyclinic, or a private OT.

Step 2

The OT issues a recommendation letter specifying the equipment needed. This is your key document for the SMF application.

Step 3

Submit the SMF application to AIC with the OT letter, NRIC, and income documents. AIC assesses eligibility and approves the subsidy amount.

Step 4

Purchase the approved items from an AIC-approved vendor. Pay only your co-payment share (typically 10% for most eligible seniors). Do NOT buy before receiving approval — SMF does not reimburse retrospectively.
